    It is amazing, I have been studying Spanish this year (on my own), using the lockdown time especially, and I could understand really a lot of this conversation in Italian. I didn't think this would happen anytime soon! It's really worth while to learn new languages.

    • @michaelrespicio5683

      I might add that any language is worthwhile to learn, even some "uncommon" ones too. I'm learning Lithuanian which I bet nobody here ever considered and it's a huge shame. One of the hidden gems of Europe everybody misses out on. It's such a unique language and might even be my personal favorite

    So this is a bit of a tricky question but i really need your answer...
    I wanted to learn french using movies (about law and lawyers cause i'm in law school and i like motivating myself cause noone else does)
    So i asked google how many hrs does it take to learn a language and the answer was 480 hrs of learning the lang ..so what i'm going to do is give myself 90 days to be able to understand the language more in these 90 days that's my goal ..to see improvement fast to stay motivated ...so what i will do in these 90 days is studying grammer untill b2 and also there is a 114 episodes of suits (the legal series) i will watch 5 episodes a day and i will rewatch it for 3 times that is 450 hrs of listening to french and i will be done with the b2 level of the grammer at the same time i'm done with watching suits for the fourth time 😂
    what i need to know is ..is this going to work for me ?
    Will i achieve the goal that i want ? Will i be able to understand spoken french as i understand the spoken english so that i could start improving on the basics or is the whole thing wrong and i need to rethink of a new method ?
    Ps. my first language is not english apparently and i'm able to speak it thanks to the hundreds of movies and series i've watched , that's why i'm willing to try this.
    Soo thanks in advance and pls let me know your answer cause i'm about to give up and sign for a paid course instead of learning on my own 😂

    Overall, nice conversation. However, I was surprised by some mistakes Steve made. It's "mi è piaciuto", not "mi ha piaciuto", "ricominciare", not "racomenciare". Oftentimes he confused second and third person singular ("e tu, quando insegna l'italiano..."). And as the discussion went on, it became a bit fuzzy ("si tu interrompi lo studento").

    • @Thelinguist
      @Thelinguist  4 года назад +3

      Sorry, rusty from lack of use, Nothing that more exposure and use won't correct, although gradually. Third person/second person confusion is especially a problem when transitioning from other Romance languages and not having a natural correct reflex on which to use. You are an astute observer, but mistakes don't bother me. Most correct themselves over time.

    Je voudrais te dire, @Steve Kaufmann, que l'Italien n'a rien à voir avec le Latin. L'italien est en fait le Romanica, la langue parlée par les plébéiens, qui n'a que peu changé et le latin la langue parlée par les patriciens. Le vocabulaire est commun, car ces gens s'inter-comprenaient très bien, mais regarde seulement la grammaire ! Ah, mais il est vrai que la grammaire t'intéresse peu ! ^^
    Le Romanica donna l'Italien à 95% ou plus, l'Espagnol à 80% et les français qui sont de mauvais coucheurs en ont hérité de 50%. Mais le Latin, c'est une langue vivante parce qu'on la parle encore, mais elle n'a rien engendré de vernaculaire.
    Mes 2 centimes.
